About the Samson MDR8 8-Channel Mixer
The Samson MDR 8 is an 8-channel professional stereo mixer with built-in 24-bit DSP. It can handle up to either 8 line ins, 4 mics and 2 stereo line ins or 6 mics all with high-quality mic preamps.
Samson MDR8 8-Channel Mixer Reviews
Quality: Like I said, maybe I just got a bad one, but I returned it after testing it for several minutes (and the box looked like this was a factory reseal, so obviously somebody else tested it before me and returned it).
Value: Can't recommend at this price - the Alesis mixers sounded much better at much lower prices.
Desirability: Although it looked to be a nice picture and strong unit, after having it in my hands I can't say I was overly impressed by the design and hated the sound. Structurally it seemed strong.
Sound: Perhaps I just got a bad unit, but the distortion was terrible, the effects particularly weak (especially for the price), and the inputs too sensitive to cable movement.
Support: ZZOUNDS gives the best support, especially on returns. Never went to the manufacturer, but I did notice the SAMSON website didn't include downloadable manuals for these, which is strange because the ZOOM line of products (which I find great) are supported thusly, and I believe SAMSON manufactures those too. But you can tell it's two different engineering staffs doing the mixers and the recorders/drum machines.
Overall: Again, perhaps I got a bum unit, but this mixer was totally unsatisfactory sound-wise, and a bit cumbersome in the control layout.
