MAudio BX5 Powered Monitors Reviews

Feature:
Nice set of features, including the frequency adjustments. Just wish that the engineers designing powered monitors would put power switch IN THE FRONT !!! Why do I have to reach around back to turn all powered monitors on??? C'mon guys....Also, wish the speakers had better protection against kids poking the cones (see Yamaha MSP-5, which has protective covers). the silk tweeter dome is pretty soft and pliable. Basically, I wouldn't travel with these speakers.

Quality:
Seems very solid.

Value:
Excellent value for the money. I really liked the Yamaha MSP-5's, but for $250 less, these guys are much better value. Got mine for $250/pair at guitar center.

Desirability:
I did a lot of research, listened to a bunch of monitors, and decided these were best value at this price point. I sit only a few feet from the monitors, so I don't need monsters.

Sound:
Sound is clear and clean. True that low-end is not overly pronounced, but what would one expect from a 5-inch speaker? Besides, an overly pronouced bass would lead to less-than-desired bass in final mix played on other speakers, so who needs it?

Support:
Haven't need it.

Overall:
Gets the job done. The fidelity of the YamahaMSP-5 was slightly fuller, and a little rounder and more solid to my ear, but the M-Audio's ran a close second. After you get used to the monitor, who cares anyway???
